Dear Meli,
How important do you think consistency is? I ask because I have been practicing meditation for several decades now. However, I change my meditation practice quite often. Whenever I hear about a new form of meditation, I’m always intrigued and have to check it out. However, I always seem to end up back in my regular practice. I’m wondering if this is a problem, or if it’s okay that I change things up from time to time.
Moody Meditator
Dear Moody,
How fabulous that you consistently meditate! Habits can be challenging to form. I think the best behaviors can sometimes be the most difficult to ingrain as habits. So good on ya! And thank you for upleveling the vibration of the planet with your practice!
I’m sure there are varying opinions about your question. But in my opinion, the fact that you have an ongoing meditation practice is what matters most.
I have had periods of time during which I changed from one meditation to another. I also have had periods of time when I have maintained the same practice for years. I have enjoyed the fruits and benefits of both approaches.
Sometimes I get bored with doing the same thing each day. It has been in those times that a new meditation can make a tremendous difference in my practice. To go from bored (which, for me, can translate to less focused) to excited can be a game-changer!
And yet, there have been times when, by staying with the same practice day in and day out, I go deeper than I might have if I varied my approach.
I guess what I’m saying is that meditation is fabulous. There is so much science pointing to the benefits of meditation! We can always find proponents of one meditation or another saying that theirs is the best (like diets, right?). But the science I’ve seen points to the many-faceted blessings that come from all types of meditation!
In summary, I would say stick with one form of meditation. OR vary it. But keep on meditating! As you do, you’ll watch your mind become more positive and peaceful. It is a magical and beautiful thing that I never ever tire of.
Blessings and Love to you in all you do!
In Joy,
Melissa
