Lately the world has felt like a snow globe.

Except instead of snow gently falling around a bucolic winter scene when the globe is jiggled, we’re looking at institutions crumbling, people dying, and the planet erupting in extreme weather patterns. No gentle falling snow about it.

I don’t know about you, but a question I’ve been asking myself lately is What can I do?

Mr. Rogers tells us that in times like this, we’re supposed to look for the helpers.

So how can I possibly do anything to help, given everything that’s going on??? And what could possibly be enough???

Melissa and I have had an interesting experience with the protest movement. Every time there’s been a No Kings rally in our town, we’ve arranged our lives so we can go.

We cancelled other plans. We marked the day in our calendar so we won’t forget. We even busted out some poster board and made a sign to proudly carry in the march.

And every time, every time¸ something has prevented us from going. Usually it’s been that we’ve gotten sick. We rarely get sick, but somehow our bodies want to fall apart on the day of the No Kings rally.

You’d almost think our physical temples are trying to tell us something.

Last month, I wrote about my new favorite spiritual teacher, Panda Bear. (Not actually his name. Read the post to find out his real name!)

One of the reasons I find Panda Bear so soothing these days is that he reminds us that everyone has a role to play in the revolution that’s happening on the planet.

And it is a revolution. That’s why we’re seeing an extinction burst of old patterns, holding on for dear life before they fade away altogether.

Every single one of us is part of this revolution.

Some of us are called to fight. To take to the streets, to stand up to the powers that be.

I love that this is happening. I see the resistance movement in Minneapolis and elsewhere and it fills me with hope.

And yet. This role isn’t for everyone.

Some of us have another role. A role that can’t be seen from the paradigm of material reality. And because it can’t be detected from the physical plane, our role is often discounted. Especially by some of those fighting on the material paradigm

Our role is also often discounted by those of us in the role.

Our role?

To live in the new vibration of Love that’s dawning on earth.

There’s a horrible song by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney called The Girl Is Mine. (Some of you may love this song. I can’t stand it. Sorry not sorry.) Melissa would point out that the songwriting is actually solid. But the song? Terrible. Except for one line. Near the end of the song, Michael Jackson says, “I’m a lover not a fighter.”

That. That’s my role.

That’s why my body rebelled against going to the protests. It’s not mine. (At least, not so far. Who knows what will happen in the future? Not me!)

What is mine to do?

Spending every morning in spiritual practice, cultivating a vibration of Love. Nourishing my body with good food and good sleep. Committing myself to a vocation that’s about creating tools for radically joyful living. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I also do what I can to support those fighting on the front lines. I give money to ACLU, Public Citizen, and others. I write my representatives. I speak up about the importance of equity and inclusion. I live authentically as my gender-rich self.

I know that some of you reading this are fighters. Some are lovers. And some are both. There are lots of things to do in the Love Revolution!

In my little corner of the snow globe, I’ve found it important to remember that both loving and fighting are vital ways to participate.

Because consciousness is creative, living in and for the consciousness of Love makes a difference. Actually, it’s beyond making a difference. Living in and for the consciousness of Love is the genesis of all of the shifts currently needed on the planet.

A world where everyone is valued and honored. A world where governments serve the people and not the pockets of corporations and billionaires. A world that takes sweet care of this beautiful planet we live on. It’s all built on the consciousness of Love. And it can’t happen without it.

Some of my fighter friends may disagree, but that’s okay. There’s room for all of us. All of us have a role to play.

Even those who would scoff at the idea of a Love Revolution, even those who are in active destruction mode, have a role to play. That role may be one of aiding and abetting the extinction burst and the terror it’s evoking, but revolutions are nothing if not messy.

Me? I’m hanging out in love mode.

I appreciate, respect, and support those in fight mode.

And I’m doing my best to send love to those in extinction burst mode. They need it.

We all need it.

Love is a mighty force.

Love will prevail.

Always and in all ways.
