For those of you who have been following this blog for a while, you know it’s been through some changes lately.
A year ago, I started posting every other week.
Six months ago, Life in Z-D moved to OhMyGod Life.
And now, another big change is on the horizon.
This time, the change is due to a voice that visited me in the middle of the night.
There I was, sleeping away, when I was awakened by a voice. One that said,
You need to start cartooning.
What? Me?
I have a history of hearing a voice in my head, telling me to do strange things.
Like rap. And go to ministerial school.
Usually I argue with the voice.
I mean, when a voice in your head tells you to do something wacky, it only makes sense to engage in a lively debate before committing.
But interestingly enough, this time I didn’t argue.
Prior to my midnight revelation, I’d been feeling restless about this blog, knowing that it needed something different.
Or maybe it needed to end.
I wasn’t sure which.
So the minute I heard the cartoon suggestion, I knew it made sense.
Indeed, it was hard to get back to sleep because I was so excited about the idea.
The next day, I drew my first cartoon, scanned it in our printer and processed it in Photoshop.

Then I went online to find out how to add color.

It took several days to figure it all out. Color schemes. Scanner modes. File processing.
There were many steep learning curves. Lots of frustration.
But in the end, I figured it out.

So that’s the new Z-D.
Will I ever use photos again?
I have no idea.
I’ll wait to see what the voice in my head comes up with next. . . .

Yayyy!!! I’m so excited about seeing your cartoons! 🙂
I’m so excited that you’re so excited! 🙂
Another way to share your beautiful voice
And thank you for the beautiful comment! 😉
I must say that your choice of pictures for the blog has always been excellent, but your cartoons will take the blog to a whole new level. I love what you’ve come up with so far, and I know that future cartoons will exude your wit and wisdom.
I had an inspiration at the beginning of the summer to rest a bit from writing and marketing my writing and do something different — selling my myriad tubs of collectibles (that my kids don’t give a hoot about) on eBay and Amazon. Has it ever been fun to follow that inspiration! Variety is truly the spice of life. 🙂
Gosh, thank you. I am always inspired by your comments and wisdom, so we have a mutual appreciation here. And I love that you’re following the inspiration flow as well – life really does get excellent when we do that, doesn’t it?! 🙂
My fave – “change your name to Y” – ha ha ha ha! I just love how open and receptive you are to the whispering (or maybe sometimes chattering?) of Spirit! That voice has been nudging me to create feng shui tip-type videos. Exciting!
Oooooh. That sounds cool! And I imagine that you would bring an engaging and bright DYT Type 1 energy to those videos. 🙂
Yes! Gotta show up as me – The Feng Shui Fairy…and bring fun and magic to it all – thx ZZ!!! xo
LOVE IT! As for my inspiration – I just need to stop arguing with that Voice. It knows so much more than I ever could.
On another note, Z, think about a graphics tablet. Cartooning will be so much more fun that way!!! Work straight into Adobe Illustrator and viola – half your steps can be gone.
With Love and from the
River
I love this – not arguing with the Voice. What a concept! And thanks for the heads up about the graphics tablet. I’ll let Melissa know she needs to buy me one. 😉
Hi………..
Those voices in the night are great when you can contemplate together;
For along time, my voices in the night were, “Strangers in the night” and I worked to get way past their horizon. Now just a few comforting voices and they are all loving, kind, spiritual, God-like and keep me and Clarabel safe in the night….what a transition….I love your new dimension…it is so playful
Michael :))
Here’s to loving, kind and comforting voices. The best kind! Good to know that you and Clarabel are keeping safe in the night! 🙂
