Who knew that Covid could be so giving?

Granted, when Melissa and I got Covid for the first time in the winter of ’23, it was giving a lot of fatigue and sniffles.

But it also churned out a miracle.

As I explained in my first Covid Miracle post, I ended up with an amazing doctor because of the dreaded disease’s visit to our little home.

But wait, there’s more!

It happened in week four of our Covid adventure. We’d been given a great diet, vitamin, and exercise regime from my fabulous new doctor and were beginning to see some improvements.

But we still felt sick. Tired.

As we lay in bed one morning – because lying in bed was something we were really good at at this point – we started talking about our touring schedule.

When we first got our travel van PJ, we constructed a touring schedule to maximize our ability to use the van. And maximize we did.

We did long tours each spring and each fall, and it was fabulous.

Until it wasn’t.

Our Covid adventure hit us when we were prepping to go into another year of two big tours – one in the fall and one in the spring. Except, as we lay in bed talking that morning, we realized how stressed this was making us. As we each confessed our level of stress in relation to touring, we realized that we’d been making ourselves wrong for being stressed out.

If I just change my mindset about touring, I’ll stop being stressed. The problem isn’t the schedule, it’s me.

Yeah, no.

We tried on the idea of a new touring schedule. We’d only do long tours in the spring. When we tour in the fall, if we tour in the fall, we’d do a shorter tour.

As we tried this on, the relief was palpable.

We’d forgotten that we’re in charge. We’d let our touring schedule become the boss of us, and not the other way around.

Did this revelation allow us to finally get better?

Yes! Yes it did.

Looking back on it, we see that Gigantic Gift #2 from Covid was the inspiration to rework our schedule.

Did we have to get Covid to make the change? In this case, we did.

But the whole adventure was a reminder to pay attention to our stress levels, and our choices that influence those stress levels. The sooner we catch the connection between the two, and make changes before we start to suffer the consequences, the better!

So once again I say: Thank you, Covid!

You came when we needed you. And then you left.

Thank God!
