I live in the future.

It’s true.

I’m not talking about avoiding my present reality because I’m fixated on plotting and planning my future reality.

Though I have certainly been known to do such a thing. (It’s exhausting. Truly.)

I’m also not saying that I live a state of total bliss and enlightenment, a destination coveted by many on the spiritual path.

Instead, I am talking about something more elemental.

Let me explain.

Like many of us, I recently watched the Kavanaugh hearings.

Whoo boy. (So to speak.)

The hearings were disturbing on a multitude of levels, not the least of which was the presence of someone so clearly devoid of the calm, objective constitution needed for a position on the high court.

Not to mention the déjà vu sensation (ANITA!) of watching a woman clearly speaking her truth, followed by a man scrambling to try to deny her truths.

But the part that sparked this post was something else altogether.

It was the composition of committee.

As I watched the preponderance of old, white, male faces, I felt like I had gone back in time. Like it was the 1950’s, or even earlier. (We could take it all the way back to the founding of this country. Just sayin….)

I realized that one of the reasons all those old, white, male faces looked funny to me is that I live in California.

California is one of five states in the U.S. that are known as majority-minority states. (The others are New Mexico, Texas, Nevada, and Hawaii.)

In California, no single group forms a majority of the state’s population.

And let me tell you: It’s really frickin cool.

Here’s my favorite thing about it.

Spirit on the earth plane is all about diversity. Spirit has created a multitude of beautiful life forms, including a vast array of different ethnicities.

Living in a state populated by Spirit’s beautiful, diverse expression is breath-taking. It’s like I get to soak up more of Spirit by living in such a place.

The other really frickin’ cool thing is that this is where we’re headed as a nation. The latest data from the US Census Bureau says that by 2045, the US will be a majority minority country.

Whoo hooooo!

I have a friend, a straight white cisgender male friend, who admitted that this scares him. Clearly, loads of white people are scared by this fact.

But, as someone living in this future right now, I have to say that it’s not scary at all.

Indeed, it’s glorious.

This isn’t to say that California is a utopia. Far from it.

Just like the US Senate, the California senate is still disproportionally white and male.

But this is changing.

Indeed, the regressive policies of our current national leadership are prompting a beautifully diverse array of individuals to run for office – and win.

It’s only right that Spirit’s diverse expression should be governed by a body that expresses a similar diversity of expression.

That’s where we’re headed.

It’s a beautiful future.
