How magical is your spiritual practice?

Do you spend each day vibing with the angels and having earth-shattering revelations every hour?

Or is it more like a comforting, background hum?

For me, when I first discovered the spiritual path, it was more like the former. It was like I was walking around with the top of my head blown off, and Spirit’s light was pouring in 24/7.

But now?

My spiritual life is still amazing, don’t get me wrong. But it often feels more like a warm, comforting blanket than a mind-blowing light infusion.

The other day, though? I had a taste of that infusion once again.

I was driving around in my car, doing errands. As I am wont to do, I was listening to music as I drove. I love listening to music while I’m driving. When the song is zippy, I feel energized and alive. When the song is mellow, I feel grounded and relaxed. A good time is had by all. And by “all” I mean me, alone in my car, grooving to my tunes.

The other day, though, I decided to try something a little different. I usually pick out my playlist and songs before I start driving. I have lots of different playlists for different moods and occasions, so I like to craft my audio experience ahead of time. But on this day, I left my preferences out of it. On this day, I put all my songs on shuffle.

“Surprise me, Universe!” I said. And then I started to drive.

And, boy howdy, did the Universe surprise me. Or, more precisely, It sang to me.

Every song that came up was deeply meaningful. The songs answered questions I’d been having. They soothed fears. They gave me much-needed pep talks where much-needed pep talks were due.

It was like Spirit climbed inside my song list and hand-picked each song to resonate deeply with exactly what I was going through at the moment.

Actually, it wasn’t like that, it was that.

Spirit is everywhere. In everything. So of course It was in my car that day, in every tune. And when I was in my early 24/7 light infusion days, I was aware of Spirit’s presence all the time.

I can remember riding in a bus and writing in my journal in those early days. I wrote “Can I trust this?” on the page. Just then, I was prompted to look up. There, next to the bus, was a truck with the letters “TRUST” emblazoned on its side.

Whaaaaaaat?

I have never again seen a truck with such an emblem. But I saw it that day.

I saw, felt, and experienced all sorts of things in those early days. I spent all day, every day, looking for and finding evidence of Spirit all around me.

And now?

And now Spirit is a comfort. That warm blanket that envelops me. But I don’t necessarily spend all day, every day, looking for and finding evidence of Spirit all around me.

But that’s what I did the other day in the car.

It reminded me that I can still do that now.

I can actively look for Spirit everywhere. When I’m in line at the grocery store. When I’m doing laundry. When I’m taking out the garbage.

It’s easier to remember that Spirit is everywhere and in everything when I’m meditating. Or when I’m upset about something and asking Spirit for help.

But Spirit’s here, all the time, blowing my head open and blasting in Light. Yes, I still have Spirit’s warm blanket around me, to comfort me. But I also have the magic.

And today, I choose to remember It.
